![]() ![]() His sons took over the business and discontinued the production of bicycles. Johnson passed away in 1895 at the age of 54. In 1891, the company's name changed again to the Johnson Arms & Cycle Works upon relocating to Fitchburg, Massachusetts, where production of revolvers and bicycles resumed. Johnson renamed the company Iver Johnson & Company Revolvers, also known as the Iver Johnson Arms Company. In 1882, Johnson purchased Bye's share of the company. The pair also brought bicycle manufacturing to their firearms manufacturing facility. Johnson and Bye were awarded various firearms-related patents from 1871 to 1876. In 1871, Johnson formed a partnership with Martin Bye to open Johnson & Bye Gunsmiths in Worcester, Massachusetts. He spent eight years working hard and learning everything he could about the firearms industry in North America. ![]() Johnson worked for the Allen & Wheelock Gun Shop upon arriving in the United States. ![]() Johnson began his apprenticeship in gunsmithing at age 16 and opened his own firearms business in Oslo, Norway. When Iver Johnson immigrated to Massachusetts in 1863, he was already familiar with firearms. ![]()
